Metal wire makers, belonging to the labour-intensive small and medium enterprises (SME) sector, are dealing with acute uncooked materials shortages that will result in the closure of a number of items, a senior trade physique official stated on Sunday.
About 100 items within the organised sector that supply employment to about 5 lakh employees within the nation are already working under 50 per cent of their rated capability, and if the disaster prolongs, many should shut down, the official stated.
The wire makers have sought the federal government’s intervention to make sure uncooked materials provide, and a window for imports of specialized gadgets that aren’t produced within the nation.
“The trade is dealing with acute scarcity of high-grade wire rods, the principle uncooked materials for wire manufacturing, which has various utility in nation-building,” Metal Wire Producers Affiliation secretary-general Tirthankar Banerjee instructed PTI.
“The paucity of high-grade wire rods is 50 per cent, and it is because of insufficient home provide and import restrictions,” he stated.
The affiliation urged the Union authorities to ask Metal Authority of India (SAIL) to streamline its specialised wire rods plant at Burnpur and advise Rashtriya Ispat Nigam (RINL) and different personal metal makers to produce uncooked supplies in ample amount to the SME sector at honest costs.
